My full thoughts on the 2020 REEB Redikyelous Steel Hardtail
today we're reviewing the brand-new reap ridiculous this is brand-new for 10 chainstays with a 29er on there 65 degree head angle this is a size medium this bike was designed by jeff lenosky a good friend of mine and he knows how to build a bike the way I like it so I'm super excited to take this out this is the only hard tail at the show that is slacker than 67 degrees and it's too bad cuz man hard tails are really come alive with slack head angles like this these ribs this is a steel bike these are handmade in the United States so a little bit more expensive than some bikes but these guys can do custom bikes they can do tweaks on existing bikes but they can do tie they can do steel
they're super nice guys to bikes quiet hmm it's not supple like the ioniq that bike was just special with the rear triangle
tackle some bonus speech oh this thing is fun it's an aggressive bike that wants to go fast so if you watch jeff lenosky ride oh he can pick up his front tire me to climb and set it wherever he wants that's what I'm able to do real easily because of that super short chain stick and for someone like me with short legs who likes trials moves and jumps and bunny hops nothing beats a short chain stay jumps oh well I think I like the head angle even slacker by two degrees
this does not feel cumbersome are difficult to maneuver with the 29 inch wheels some hard tails do there's a lot of traditional mountain bikes especially hard tails with the safe geometry been using for five to ten to 20 years 67 degree head angle for 30 chainstays and this bike is quite different with the 65 had angle longer pork shorter chain stays it's amazing how a few degrees different here are there equate to a completely different riding experience
no other bike at this event rides even closer this
and it's too bad that so many companies take a look at hard tails like the redheaded stepchild bit oh people just write a hardtail because they can't afford a full suspension it's all of us right on my choice
thanks and so I think because they kind of treat it like your redheaded stepchild they don't innovate or try new things but Reeves the only one here willing to go slacker everyone else is some for some reason afraid of anything slacker than 267 and hard tails come alive especially on aggressive terrain with the slack heading on and a short chain steady I can't get over how short this chain see is that is not an easy feat for a manufacturer to make chain stays that short especially with 29 inch compatibility guy wouldn't mind giving a little bit slacker but this bike likes charge
feel slightly steeper than 65 to me so we're shortner and really benefits is on slow technical moves big power climbs bunny hops lifts stuff like that the disadvantages of a short rear chain stay are that it's less planted as speed as your wheelbase is a little shorter it encourages you to ride over the front of the bike a little more with a short chain stay Easter cake yeah and I think that's a good thing it puts you in a more aggressive position but some people like the longer chain stick is the wheels further out behind you it's more planted more stable at speed it rails bermed corners better so you get to kind of pick your poison on bikes these days but I don't race for speed on my hard tails I just ride for fun and I like the short chains
I don't quite trust these tires the side knobs yet need to get to know along better I like the way they roll on the flats and climbs you have this place doesn't quite want to lean like my middle child I'm fighting the head angle just a little could be the super short stem we are done with our climb now we have fun not normally an ERG on grip fan but I like these ones they feel good let's take a look at this cool dropout system nice pinched tubing there where they flatten it down a little bit this bike is not the stiffest by kevin but it's not the subtlest either i would give it like if ten is really supple I'd give it like a seven it's beautiful paint job what a beautiful bike even though this is an easy trail it's easy to get a good feel for what this bike feels like it's stiff when you pedal without beating you up on the downer a lot more progressive than the ioniq rides more like a modern bike the ioniq I tested it's still a special bike but the short jeans day being able to pop the front end over things and that slacker head angle means I get to ride it how I like to ride it
if you like lifting the front end up when you ride and wheeling and jumping you gotta try a short chain stay bike level there's nothing like it especially if you have short legs you're 6 feet tall all bikes feel like this one does to me to you I think but for smaller riders get these shortest chainstay you can
this bike wants a harder trail I can feel it wants to be pushed harder than this this is too easy for it wants to be challenged it still feels great on this you can feel it's got so much more to give Jeff good job designing this Jeff's a better rider than me so he can unlock its potential even way more than I can but even for a rider like me and this is fun really enjoying riding this I had high expectations for this bike knowing Jeff designed it and knowing the guys that read and how well they made bikes and how good their pedigree is with building bikes and this lives up to those expectations what a bike
personally I wouldn't buy one I'd buy one and get it to degree slacker and then have like the ultimate 29er Ripper and then it would be pretty close to my middle child in the way it rides but the middle child is still gonna have sliding dropouts
and room 4 plus tires I feel like the middle child for me is a little more versatile with slow bunny hop moves because I can run those smaller wheels and you can run 27 5 rear on this just not by 22.8 2 3.0 I don't think mr. fun combo is a 29er it encourages me to lean it doesn't need any heads-up warning is pink manual in this foot second it's they're so fun if you watch trail boss jeff lenosky youtube channel and you like the way he rides this bike rewards people that ride that way
on your right
accelerate really quick all right let's break this thing climbing and out of ten just sending I'm gonna give it an eight out of ten it wasn't quite it wasn't as confident descending as my middle child and that bikes kind of ruined me it's I needs to be a little slacker needs to be a little bit slacker to get a ten
playfulness ten out of ten that short chain stays so fun let's see cornering I'm gonna give it a 9 out of 10 could be the tires and this is a short review if I had this for a month to ride every day my review would be quite different but this is an initial impression overall super impressive this bike super fun to ride let's see how it wheelies
all that short rear end there's a huge wheelie spot on this thing
okay that's the best wheeling bike I've ever ridden holy cow I think wheelie so well so the way I rated on Wheeling is there's this huge range of where you can have the front wheel up or down and still hold onto your wheelie that's amazing
yeah best wheeling bike I've ever ridden
fun that's what we're here for so good man
