My Thoughts:
I love these wheels, they're one of my all-time favorite wheels for a hardtail. They're heavy and expensive, but they ride unlike anything else. These wheels encourage me to ride my hardtail like it's a full suspension. I can get lazy on line choice and the wheels will pick up the slack. They're not the most precise feeling wheel, but they're my favorite for fast trails, for downhill, for traction, and for tired days when I don't have the energy to man-handle a stiff wheelset. They're the most compliant wheelset I've ridden, and nothing else matches them. They reduce trail chatter, they increase control and traction. These wheels aren't light, so if you're looking for a fast climbing wheelset, these aren't it.
Here's where they fell compliance wise in this test:
Nukeproof HZN V2 (least compliant)
Curve Dirt Hoops
Evil Loopholes
Atomik FM30 with Berd Spokes
Spinergy MMX 30
ZIPP 3ZERO Moto (most compliant)
Percieved weight
Atomik FM30 with Berd Spokes (lightest feeling)
Curve Dirt Hoops
Spinergy MMX 30
Evil Loopholes
ZIPP 3ZERO Moto
Nukeproof HZN V2 (heaviest feeling)
- Single wall construction
- "Ankle compliance" where the rim pivots on the spoke nipple
- Reflective rim decals
